1. Introduction
As TCM is becoming a major medical stream in the world, more and more people seek to get a deeper knowledge of this phenomenon. In the meantime, not only TCM is popular nature medicine. Basically anything that has to do with China finds followers all over the world. Therefore, our university has introduced a new course that gives people the possibility to get a deeper knowledge of both TCM and Chinese language as well as Chinese culture.
2. Specific information
Traditional Chinese Medicine consists of many aspects and it would take a lifetime to study all of them. Therefore we offer a range of courses, of which you can choose the two you are interested in the most. The different subjects we offer are:
•  Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting thin needles into specific body points to improve health and well-being. It originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. Researchers don't fully understand how acupuncture works. It might aid the activity of your body's pain-killing chemicals. It also might affect how you release chemicals that regulate blood pressure and flow.
•  Chinese massage
Chinese massage is closely related to acupuncture in its use of the meridian system and is considered to be effective for a similar range of health problems. However it should not be seen as a poor relation to acupuncture. It is an effective and comprehensive therapy and is one of the fundamental arts of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
•  Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used throughout Asia for thousands of years. The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi , and maintain general health.
•  Tai Ji Quan
Tai Ji Quan (Tai Chi) is one of the most developed martial arts, originating from China . Nowadays, more and more people start to learn Tai Ji Quan for different purposes. For example, fighters learn Tai chi to be more competitive, patients learn Tai chi for a better recovery, senior citizens learn Tai chi to be invulnerable and young people learn Tai chi to be calm and less stressful.
•  Basic Chinese Language
Everybody knows that Chinese is a difficult language, but it doesn`t have to be. People who study Chinese in a serious way will spend a lot of their study time on hanzi (Chinese characters). Most language courses offered in China cannot be followed without the use of hanzi. We would like to give people the possibility to study basic Chinese in an easy way. In this basic Chinese language course we will be using pinyin (the most common Romanization system), instead of the characters and the focus will be on spoken language. The content of the lessons will be based on daily life situations, such as ordering food in a restaurant, shopping, asking directions and so on. After this course students will be able to travel more confidently in China and use Chinese in daily life situations.
3.  Practical information
All the medical courses will be taught by practicing Chinese TCM doctors in English. The Tai Ji Quan course will be taught by a Tai Ji Quan expert and for the Chinese course, the university will provide Chinese teachers who have experience in teaching foreigners.
