Acupuncture and Moxibustion Course

1. Introduction
As TCM is becoming a major medical stream in the world, more and more people seek to get a deeper knowledge of this phenomenon. Therefore our university offers a course that gives people who are interested in TCM a deeper knowledge in two aspects of it, acupuncture and moxibustion. Acupuncture is the practice of inserting thin needles into specific body points to improve health and well-being. It originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. Researchers don't fully understand how acupuncture works. It might aid the activity of your body's pain-killing chemicals. It also might affect how you release chemicals that regulate blood pressure and flow.
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used throughout Asia for thousands of years. The purpose of Moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi , and maintain general health.
2. Content of the course
Our university offers a course that combines the study of both acupuncture and moxibustion, as they are closely related to each other. The course lasts for two months and consists of an introductory course and an advanced course, each of which will last one month. People who already have a basic knowledge of TCM and acupuncture though can skip the introductory course and start straight away with the advanced course.

The theoretical lessons` contents will be based on the textbook Essentials of Chinese Acupuncture , which gives clear and simple explanations and has been used in many acupuncture courses throughout China. The first two weeks of the monthly course will be dedicated to the study of theory, with a two-hour class in the morning and a two-hour class in the afternoon. The classes will be taught in English by local doctors, who have experience in both practicing and teaching TCM. The last two weeks of the course will be dedicated to a two-hour theory classe in the morning and a two-hour clinical practice in an affiliated hospital of our university in the afternoon.
